The High Tea Cat – Free Crochet Pattern

This heirloom-quality amigurumi doll features the signature round face and chubby cheeks of a British Shorthair, crocheted in a soft, heathered grey. She is attired in a wardrobe fit for nobility. Her centerpiece is a breathtaking Blush Pink dress, meticulously crocheted with a lace-shell stitch to mimic the texture of fine vintage fabric. Draped over her shoulders is a gossamer-thin white shawl, secured with a tiny floral pin. Her headwear is a true showstopper: a cream-colored fascinator hat adorned with pearls and a delicate crochet “net” veil that adds an air of mystery. On her feet, she wears sensible yet stylish cream flats with dainty bows. No high tea is complete without the service; she holds a miniature teacup with hand-embroidered roses and is accompanied by a sweet pink-frosted cupcake. This pattern is designed for intermediate crocheters who love detailed costume construction.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the cat body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished cat stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable, allowing for interactive play.

Construction Overview

The cat is constructed in pieces. The head is large and round to mimic the British Shorthair breed, with a separate cream muzzle sewn on. The body is pear-shaped and sturdy. The dress is worked from the waist down for the skirt (using shell stitches) and waist up for the bodice. The fascinator hat uses chain loops to create a faux veil. The teacup and cupcake are detailed miniatures.
