The Bakery Cow – Free Crochet Pattern

She is dressed ready for a busy morning of baking and delivering goods. Her outfit consists of a classic Pale Blue and White striped dress, reminiscent of old-fashioned aprons or tablecloths. To keep the morning chill at bay, she wears a cozy cream-colored bolero jacket. Her look is topped off with a voluminous, puffy Baker Boy hat that gives her a professional yet adorable silhouette. On her feet, she sports sturdy brown T-strap shoes, perfect for walking around the village. Her accessories tell a story: she carries a freshly baked baguette in a crochet “paper” bag, and she is accompanied by a tiny, fluffy yellow chick and a rustic basket filled with fresh eggs. This pattern is perfect for intermediate crocheters who love detailed outfits and storytelling accessories.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the cow body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished cow stands approximately 28 cm (11 inches) tall. The clothing is designed to be removable, adding an element of play and customization.

Construction Overview

The cow is constructed in pieces. The head is round with a distinct muzzle sewn on. The body is pear-shaped with joined legs to allow for standing. To achieve the “Brown and White” look, you can either use tapestry crochet to change colors while working the head/body or crochet solid white and sew on brown patches later (the pattern below uses the patch method for easier placement). The dress uses color changes for stripes. The Baker Boy hat uses increases to create volume before tightening at the band.
