The Rainy Day Piggy – Free Crochet Pattern

She features soft, blush-pink skin and a sweet, upturned snout. Her wardrobe is the epitome of practical fashion. She wears a stunning mustard yellow “coat dress,” a style that combines the utility of a raincoat with the flare of a frock, complete with tiny wooden buttons and pockets. To protect her ears, she sports a matching mustard Sou’wester hat, designed with the classic longer brim in the back to keep the rain off her neck. Instead of clunky boots, she stays stylish in dainty black Mary Jane shoes. Her accessories are truly unique: she holds a delicate, white lace umbrella—mimicking a transparent rain shield—and is accompanied by a tiny green frog friend who loves the wet weather just as much as she does.

Gauge & Finished Size

Work tightly in continuous spiral rounds for the pig body so the stuffing does not show. Using DK yarn and a 2.5mm hook, the finished pig stands approximately 26–28 cm (10–11 inches) tall. The raincoat and hat are designed to be removable.

Construction Overview

The pig is constructed in pieces: head, snout, ears, body, legs, and arms. The legs are joined to form the body. The raincoat is worked flat in rows (raglan style) to create the cardigan opening, then joined in the round for the skirt flare. The hat is worked in the round with varied stitch heights on the brim. The umbrella uses a mesh stitch pattern to simulate transparency.
