Materials
- Sport or light DK weight yarn in:
- Soft pink (main piglet body, head, arms, legs, snout, ears)
- Red (dress yoke, hem, strawberry bodies)
- Medium green (dress skirt, strawberry leaves)
- Tan (shoe soles, basket)
- Cream or off-white (shoe uppers, optional gingham mat)
- Small amount of black or dark brown (eyes if embroidered, eyebrows, smile, strawberry seeds)
- Pair of 8–9 mm black safety eyes
- Crochet hook 2.5–3.0 mm (or size needed for a firm fabric)
- Fiberfill stuffing
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers and scissors
Optional: a piece of fabric or crocheted square to mimic the picnic blanket.
Gauge & Finished Size
- Approx. 8–9 sc per 1″ (2.5 cm) in the round.
- With yarn and hook above, the finished piglet stands about 8.5–9″ (21–23 cm) tall.
A tight fabric is important so stuffing does not show between stitches.
Construction Overview
The piglet is made from separate pieces: legs, body, arms, head, ears, snout, and tail, then assembled. The dress, sandals, basket, and strawberries are removable and crocheted separately. The dress has a red yoke with tiny puff sleeves and a green skirt decorated with strawberries and a red scalloped hem.
Stuff as you go, shaping each piece to match the soft rounded look.

R3: (sc, inc) rep around (18)
R4–5: sc around (18)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Position the snout centered between the eyes and sew neatly all around, leaving the bottom edge slightly lower to mimic the reference piglet.
Ears (make 2)
Using pink:
R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: (sc, inc) rep 3 times (9)
R3: (2 sc, inc) rep 3 times (12)
R4: (3 sc, inc) rep 3 times (15)
R5–7: sc around (15)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Flatten the ears into soft triangles. To get the gentle flop, fold the base slightly and stitch a couple of securing passes when attaching.
Tail
Using pink:
R1: 5 sc in MR (5)
R2–6: sc around (5)
Fasten off with a tail for sewing.
You can twist the tail while sewing to give a subtle curly look.
Assembly: Piglet Base
- Join head and body using the long tail from the body, making sure the head sits straight and centered.
- Attach arms on each side at the top of the body, just below the neck. Angle them slightly forward.
- Attach ears to the top sides of the head, about 3–4 rounds down from the crown, slanting outward so the points tilt slightly up and then droop.
- Attach tail at the back near the lower center of the body.
Once the base piglet is complete, set aside and work on clothing and accessories.
Strawberry Dress
The dress is removable and worked top-down with a red yoke and tiny sleeves, then a green skirt decorated with small strawberries and a red scalloped hem.
Red Yoke
Using red:
Ch 32.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (31).
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc across (31).
Row 3: ch 1, turn, sc across (31).
Bring short ends together, sew or sl st to form a ring. This ring fits around the piglet’s neck and shoulders.
Turn so the seam is at center back. Pick up stitches around the lower edge.
R1 (base for skirt): ch 1, work 31 sc evenly around edge, join with sl st (31).
Puff Sleeves (worked directly on yoke – make 2)
With red and yoke facing up, find side stitches for arm openings.
For each sleeve, skip 4 sts at the shoulder and work around that small section:
Attach red yarn at first sleeve stitch.
R1: sc in next 8 sts around arm opening, join with sl st (8).
R2: (sc, inc) rep around (12)
R3–4: sc around (12)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat on the opposite side for the second sleeve.
Sleeves should be short and puffed, ending above the pig’s wrists.
Green Skirt
Attach green yarn to any stitch of the base round R1 on the yoke.
R1: ch 1, sc in each st around, join (31)
R2: (4 sc, inc) rep 6 times plus 1 extra sc at end (37)
R3: (5 sc, inc) rep 6 times plus 1 extra sc (43)
R4: (6 sc, inc) rep 6 times plus 1 extra sc (49)
R5–7: sc around (49)
The skirt should reach just above the hooves.
Red Scalloped Hem
Switch to red.
R8: skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st, sl st in next st; rep around.
Adjust at the end if necessary so scallops meet nicely. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Slide the dress up over the piglet’s body from the feet; the yoke should sit at the base of the neck with sleeves over the shoulders.
Tiny Strawberries on Skirt
For each strawberry:
Using red:
R1: 4 sc in MR (4)
R2: (sc, inc) rep around (6)
R3: sc around (6)
Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing; pinch bottom slightly to get a strawberry shape.
Using green, embroider or surface crochet 3 small “leaves” at the top (simple straight stitches) and with black or cream add tiny seed dots.
Make enough strawberries (8–12) and sew them scattered evenly over the green skirt, including front and sides, leaving the yoke and sleeves plain red.
Sandals
Sandals are made to fit over the existing legs and match the cream/tan look.
Sole (make 2)
Using tan:
R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) rep around (18)
Fasten off.
Upper
Using cream:
Join yarn anywhere on sole edge.
R1: sc around (18)
R2: 6 sc, 3 dec, 6 sc (15) – shapes the front
R3: 5 sc, 3 dec, 4 sc (12)
Do not fasten off.
Ankle Strap
Row 1: ch 10, sk 3 sts on the back of the shoe, sl st to next st—this becomes the ankle strap.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Strap can simply stretch around the leg or you can sew it down on one side.
Slide each shoe onto a leg; the front coverage should sit across the toes, with heel and most sides visible like sandals.
Picnic Basket
Using tan:
R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) rep around (18)
R4: BLO sc around (18) – forms base edge
R5–6: sc around (18)
Fasten off and weave in.
Basket Handle
Attach tan yarn to one side of the basket rim.
Row 1: ch 9, sl st to opposite side of rim to form a handle arch.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
The piglet can hold the handle with one hand.
Strawberries (for the Picnic)
Make 2–3 larger strawberries to place on the “blanket”.
Using red:
R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: (sc, inc) rep around (9)
R3: (2 sc, inc) rep around (12)
R4–5: sc around (12)
R6: (2 sc, dec) rep around (9)
Stuff lightly.
R7: (sc, dec) rep around (6)
Fasten off and close. Shape into a plump strawberry.
Using green, embroider a cluster of leafy tops at the wide end.
With cream or yellow yarn, add small seed stitches scattered around each berry.
Optional Gingham Picnic Mat
Using cream:
Ch 26.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (25).
Rows 2–25: ch 1, turn, sc across (25).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
If desired, embroider simple red lines in both directions to mimic gingham squares, or weave thin strands of red yarn through the stitches.
Final Styling
Dress the piglet in the strawberry dress and sandals. Place the basket handle in one hand and arrange the crocheted strawberries on or beside the gingham mat, just like a little picnic scene. A natural wooden table or garden background will match the pastel outdoor vibe perfectly.
