Daisy Pasture Cow – Free Crochet Pattern

Daisy Pasture Cow is a soft amigurumi cow dressed in a pastel yellow daisy sundress, a mint green cardigan, cream-and-tan shoes with yellow bows, and a straw-style sunhat decorated with a daisy garland. She carries a tiny flower basket crossbody, plus a crocheted milk bottle and a few daisies for styling.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • MR – magic ring
  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • hdc – half double crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • inc – increase (2 sc in same st)
  • dec – invisible decrease (sc 2 sts together through front loops only)
  • BLO – back loop only
  • FLO – front loop only
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • rep – repeat
  • R – round/row

All pieces are worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.

Materials

  • Sport or light DK weight yarn in:
    1. Cream (main body, muzzle, legs, arms)
    2. Black (ears and head spot)
    3. Soft pink (nostrils, optional blush embroidery)
    4. Pastel yellow (dress and daisies’ centers)
    5. White (daisy petals and milk bottle)
    6. Mint green (cardigan)
    7. Light tan/straw (hat, shoe soles, basket)
    8. Light beige (shoe uppers, milk bottle label area if desired)
    9. Medium green (daisy leaves and foliage on basket/hat)
  • 2.5–3.0 mm crochet hook (or size to get a firm fabric)
  • Pair of 8–9 mm black safety eyes
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers, scissors

Optional: powder blush or soft pastel for cheeks.

Gauge & Finished Size

  • Approx. 8–9 sc per 1″ (2.5 cm) in the round.
  • With the yarn and hook above, the finished cow is about 9–10″ (23–25 cm) tall including the hat.

Gauge is not critical, but fabric should be tight so stuffing does not show.

Construction Overview

The cow is worked in separate pieces: legs, body, arms, head, ears, tail, and black head patch, then assembled. Clothes are removable: a yellow daisy sundress, a mint open-front cardigan, a sunhat with daisies, and shoes. Accessories include a crossbody basket filled with daisies, a milk bottle, and loose daisies for posed photos.

Stuff each piece as you go and keep the shape soft but firm.

Fasten off, leaving tails for sewing.

Head

Using cream:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) rep around (18)
R4: (2 sc, inc) rep around (24)
R5: (3 sc, inc) rep around (30)

Muzzle

Using cream:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) rep around (18)
R4–5: sc around (18)

Stuff very lightly; keep it low-profile.

Fasten off with a long tail. Embroider two small pink nostrils and a subtle vertical line between them.

Position the muzzle centered below the eyes and sew neatly around the edge.

Black Head Patch

Using black:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: (sc, inc) rep around (9)
R3: (2 sc, inc) rep around (12)
R4: sc around (12)

Fasten off. Flatten into an irregular oval and sew to one side of the head so that it peeks out from under the hat and behind one ear, mimicking the spot in the photo.

Ears (make 2)

Inner ear is cream, outer edge has a black side on one ear only.

Using cream:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: (sc, inc) rep 3 times (9)
R3: (2 sc, inc) rep 3 times (12)
R4–7: sc around (12)

Fasten off, leaving long tail.
For one ear, embroider or surface crochet a small black patch at the base on the head-spot side.

Do not stuff; flatten slightly.

Tail

Using cream:

R1: 5 sc in MR (5)
R2–5: sc around (5)

Fasten off, stuff lightly or leave unstuffed for a soft tail, and keep a tail for sewing.

Assembly: Cow Base

  1. Sew head to body using the body tail, keeping the head straight and centered.
  2. Position arms slightly under the neckline and sew them on, angled a little forward.
  3. Attach ears symmetrically on the sides of the head, about 2–3 rounds down from the crown, letting them droop gently.
  4. Sew tail to center back near the bottom.
  5. With pink yarn or blush, add soft cheeks if desired.

Set the finished cow aside while you create the clothing and accessories.

Daisy Sundress

Dress is worked top-down with a separate skirt.

Bodice

Using pastel yellow:

R1: ch 31, turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (30).
R2–4: ch 1, turn, sc across (30).

Fold into a ring; sew short ends together to form a tube. This will sit around the cow’s chest.

Pick up sts around the bottom edge to work the skirt.

Skirt

Still with yellow:

R1: ch 1, work 30 sc evenly around lower edge of bodice, join with sl st (30).
R2: (4 sc, inc) rep 6 times (36)
R3: (5 sc, inc) rep 6 times (42)
R4: (6 sc, inc) rep 6 times (48)
R5–8: sc around (48)

For a gentle flare, you can add:

R9: (7 sc, inc) rep 6 times (54)
R10: sc around (54)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Dress Straps (make 2)

Attach yellow yarn at front top edge about 5 sts from one side.

Strap: ch 10–12 (enough to reach over the shoulder to the back); sl st to back top edge. Fasten off. Repeat for the other strap, mirroring the placement.

Slide dress up from feet; bodice should sit snug under the arms with straps over shoulders.

Tiny Daisies on Skirt

For each daisy:

Using white:

R1: 6 sc in MR, sl st to first st, fasten off leaving tail.

With yellow, embroider a French knot or small circular satin stitch in center.

Make enough daisies (about 10–14) and sew them scattered around the skirt, keeping them small and evenly spaced like on the reference dress.

Mint Cardigan

Cardigan is worked flat from neckline down, then sleeves.

Using mint:

Ch 32.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (31).
Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc across (31).
Row 3 (increase for body):

  • sc 5 (right front),
  • sc 1, ch 1, sc 1 in next st (right shoulder increase),
  • sc 8 (back),
  • sc 1, ch 1, sc 1 in next st (left shoulder increase),
  • sc 5 (left front). (33 sts including ch spaces)

Row 4: ch 1, turn, sc across working 1 sc in each st and 1 sc in each ch-space (33).

Repeat Rows 3–4 once more to widen shoulders (you’ll have 35 sts).

Form arm openings:

Row 5:

  • sc 7 (right front),
  • ch 3, skip 7 (right sleeve),
  • sc 11 (back),
  • ch 3, skip 7 (left sleeve),
  • sc 7 (left front).

Row 6–8: ch 1, turn, sc in each st and each ch across (31).
Fasten off and weave in ends if needed, leaving front unjoined (no buttons), just like the open cardigan in the photo.

Sleeves (make 2)

Attach mint yarn at center of underarm opening.

R1: Work 12 sc evenly around armhole, join with sl st (12).
R2–5: sc around (12)
R6: (2 sc, dec) rep 3 times (9)

Fasten off and weave in ends. Sleeves should be slightly above the hoof, like a 3/4 sleeve.

Shoes with Yellow Bows

Shoes are worn over the existing legs; they’re soft slippers.

Using tan:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: (sc, inc) rep 3 times (9)
R3: (2 sc, inc) rep 3 times (12)

Change to beige:

R4: BLO sc around (12)
R5: sc around (12)
R6: 4 sc, 2 dec, 4 sc (10)
R7: sc around (10)

Fasten off, leaving tail to sew shoe to leg top if desired, or leave removable.

Yellow Bow

Using yellow:

Ch 6.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch and across (5).
Rows 2–3: ch 1, turn, sc across (5).

Fasten off, wrap yarn tightly around the center several times to form a bow, secure, and sew onto the top of each shoe.

Slip shoes onto legs; the tan sole should match the image.

Straw Sunhat with Daisy Garland

Using tan:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) rep around (18)
R4: (2 sc, inc) rep around (24)
R5: (3 sc, inc) rep around (30)
R6: (4 sc, inc) rep around (36)

This is the crown.

R7–8: sc around (36)

Brim:

R9: (5 sc, inc) rep around (42)
R10: (6 sc, inc) rep around (48)
R11: sc around (48)

Fasten off and weave in ends. The brim should gently curve downward when placed on the head.

Daisy Garland for Hat

Make 7–9 small daisies as for the dress (white petals, yellow centers).
Arrange them around the base of the crown and sew them in a continuous garland. Add a few small green leaves between flowers using green yarn and simple leaf shapes (ch 4, sl st back, etc.).

Flower Basket Crossbody

Basket

Using tan:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: (sc, inc) rep around (9)
R3: sc around (9)
R4: BLO sc around (9) – creates base edge
R5–6: sc around (9)

Fasten off and weave in.

Basket Handle

Attach tan yarn to one side of the rim, ch 7–8, sl st to opposite side to form a curved handle. Fasten off.

Crossbody Strap

Using tan:

Ch 40–45 (long enough to go diagonally across the cow’s chest).
Sew each end of the strap to the back of the basket.

Daisies for Basket

Make 2–3 tiny daisies (even smaller by using fewer sc in MR if you like) and a couple of green leaves. Sew to front of basket so flowers peek over the edge.

The strap should run from right shoulder to left hip, matching the reference photo.

Milk Bottle

Using white:

R1: 6 sc in MR (6)
R2: inc around (12)
R3: (sc, inc) rep around (18)
R4–8: sc around (18) – bottle body
R9: (4 sc, dec) rep 3 times (15)
R10: (3 sc, dec) rep 3 times (12)

Start stuffing firmly.

Neck:
R11–13: sc around (12)
R14: (2 sc, dec) rep 3 times (9)
R15–16: sc around (9)

Fasten off, leaving a tail. Add more stuffing and close the top slightly, shaping a soft rounded stopper.

With blue or gray yarn, embroider the word “MILK” vertically or horizontally on the bottle.

Tiny Daisies for Hand & Table

Make a few extra daisies in white and yellow as before.
For a “stem” effect, embroider a short green line on the back of each or chain a short green tail so they can be arranged like a small bouquet in the cow’s hand or laid on the table.

Final Assembly & Styling

  1. Dress the cow in the yellow sundress, then slide the mint cardigan over her arms and shoulders.
  2. Put on the shoes and adjust the yellow bows.
  3. Place the sunhat slightly tilted, letting one ear and the black patch show beneath the brim.
  4. Hang the flower basket crossbody from one shoulder, resting near the hip.
  5. Position the milk bottle next to one foot and place a few daisies in one hand or scattered near her shoes.

Your Daisy Pasture Cow is now complete and ready for photos in the garden, on a wooden table, or on a cozy sofa corner—perfect as a springtime display, a gift, or a charming star for your handmade shop listings.
