Gauge & Finished Size

Gauge is not critical, but the fabric must be firm to keep the shape.
With DK cotton and a 2.75 mm hook, your Cloudy Day Sheep will be about 22–24 cm (8.5–9.5″) tall, including beret.

Construction Overview

  • Legs with blue shoes are crocheted first and joined into the body.
  • Body and neck are one piece, with the pastel dress stripes worked directly as color changes.
  • Head is made separately and sewn on.
  • Ears, arms, and small tail are attached afterward.
  • Cardigan, beret, umbrella, and separate cloud plush are made as removable accessories.

Stuff the toy as you go, keeping it firm but still squeezable.

With cream/white:

Ch 7.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across (6), ch 1, turn.
Row 2: sc across (6), do not turn fully – now work 3 small bumps along the top:

  • (sl st, hdc, dc, hdc, sl st) across top edge, spacing them to create a fluffy outline.

Fasten off and weave in. Make three clouds: two for cardigan fronts, one for beret.

Sew two clouds on the cardigan chest, one on each side. Sew one centered on top of beret.

Cloud Beret

With cream/white:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)

Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)
Rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

Rnd 7 (scalloped edge): (sl st, hdc, dc, hdc, sl st) in next st rep around to create ruffled edge. Fasten off.

Umbrella Handle

You can use a short piece of firm wire wrapped in brown yarn or crochet a tube.

Crochet option – with light brown:

Ch 18.
Row 1: sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across (17).

Shape into a straight shaft with a tiny hook at one end (curl a few chains). Insert the straight part through the center of the canopy from inside, tie a knot or sew on top to secure.

Sew the hooked part of the handle into one of the sheep’s hands so it looks like she’s holding the umbrella.

Separate Cloud Plush

First Side

With cream/white:

Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
Rnd 2: inc around (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)

Fasten off.

Make three such circles of slightly different sizes (for a puffy look):

  • 1 small (rnds 1–2 only),
  • 1 medium (rnds 1–3),
  • 1 large (add rnd 4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)).

Arrange them in a cloud shape overlapping slightly, and sew together flat to create one cloud silhouette. Repeat to make a second identical layer.

Place the two layers wrong sides together, sew around the edges, stuffing lightly as you go. Shape into a soft cloud and place beside the sheep.

Assembly & Finishing

  1. Join Head & Body:
Sew the head securely to the neck, stitching all the way around several times for stability.
  2. Attach Arms, Ears, Tail:
Sew arms, ears, and tail in their positions as described. Make sure arms are symmetrical when the toy is facing forward.
  3. Dress the Sheep:
Slip the mint cardigan over the body, making sure the dress stripes show beneath. Button the front. Place the beret tilted to one side of the head.
  4. Add Accessories:
Stitch the umbrella handle into one hand, adjusting angle so the canopy is upright. Position the separate cloud plush next to the sheep or at her feet.
  5. Final Face Details:
Optionally add tiny eyebrows with dark yarn. Add a soft blush on cheeks using pink yarn or fabric-safe blush.

Your Cloudy Day Sheep is now ready for rainy-day play, pastel nursery décor, or cozy shelf styling with her little cloud and sunny umbrella. Happy crocheting! 🌧️🌈☁️🧶
