Introduction

Meet the Vintage Photographer Cat—a sweet, camera-loving kitty dressed in a cream textured shirt, cuffed brown pants, black loafers, and a cozy newsboy cap. The crossbody messenger bag, handheld crochet camera, tabletop film strips, and an open album complete the storytelling scene.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Form & Proportion Analysis

  • Overall height: ~9–10 in (23–25 cm) using DK/light-worsted cotton and a 3.0 mm hook.
  • Head: Large round-oval, about 1.2× the height of the body. Cheeks slightly fuller than crown. Safety eyes sit low and wide; muzzle is embroidered (no separate snout).
  • Ears: Triangular with softly rounded tips; inner ear is a lighter peach/pink panel. Ears mount slightly back from the forehead and angle outward ~10–15°.
  • Body: Gentle pear with a narrow neck and small belly; body height ≈ head height.
  • Arms: Slim cylinders, lightly stuffed for drape, attached just below shirt collar line. Right hand holds a crochet vintage camera; a messenger bag crosses left shoulder to right hip.
  • Legs/Feet: Straight legs entering the body; black loafer shoes with a low vamp; short cream “socks” are visible.
  • Clothes:
    1. Shirt: Cream waffle/cord-like texture with pointed collar and small button bumps (stitches).
    2. Pants: Dark chocolate brown, cuffed just above shoes.
    3. Cap: Brown newsboy cap with a puffy crown and short visor.
    4. Bag: Textured flap bag with a round button motif; crossbody cord strap.
  • Props: Camera (black body, gray lens & top dial) in right hand; film strips (three) on table; small photo album open with pale blue “prints.”
  • Stitch density: Tight single crochet (amigurumi) ~24 sc × 26 rows = 4″ square. Minimal seams visible; most pieces in continuous rounds.
  • Angles: Cap sits low on forehead; collar points centered; bag strap exits left shoulder and rests across chest; camera aligned to right hand with strap optional.

Shirt Body (CR, textured)

To mimic the subtle waffle texture: alternate [sc, front-post sc around the previous round’s vertical bar]. If front-post is difficult in amigurumi, use simple griddle stitch in the round: (sc in next st, hdc in next st) repeat.

  1. With CR, pick up 18 sts evenly around the neck/top of body.
2–6. Work in pattern (sc, hdc) around (18).
  2. Work NV-style ridge (optional): BLO sc around (18).
8–10. Continue pattern (18). Fasten off.
This creates a fitted shirt tucked into pants.

Rejoin CR at other side for Right point—sc 10, ch 1 turn, sc 10; fasten.
Edge entire piece with sl sts for crispness. Wrap around neck; stitch down the back so points meet at center front.

  8. Bag: Drape strap left shoulder to right hip; tack at shoulder and hip to hold position; add flap button bump.
  9. Camera: Secure to right hand; dial faces up; lens forward.
  10. Props: Arrange film strips and open album flat on the table at the kitty’s feet for photos.

Finishing & Styling

  • Light steam-block the collar points and pant cuffs to set shape.
  • Brush yarn ends for the newsboy crown to look softly puffy.
  • For the exact vibe: place on a light wooden table with a neutral sofa and a leafy plant blurred in the back; shoot near a window for natural, pastel light.

Care

Spot clean only. Avoid soaking the camera and album if you inserted cardstock. Store upright; keep away from small children due to tiny parts.

Troubleshooting

  • Cap too tight/loose: Adjust the crown at Round 6 by ±6 sts; keep total multiple of 6 for the band.
  • Collar flips up: Add a hidden stitch at each point to the shirt.
  • Camera droops: Anchor the bottom edge to the palm and add one stitch from wrist loop to forearm.
  • Figure leans: Check stuffing balance; add a pinch to the heels and tail base.
