Weekend Farmer Pup – Free Crochet Pattern

Introduction

Say hello to the Weekend Farmer Pup—a friendly amigurumi puppy dressed in sage short overalls, a white-and-mint striped tee, clean slip-on shoes with a green trim, and a crochet panama hat. He carries a mesh market tote filled with tiny vegetables (carrots, radish, leafy greens). The entire look is 100% crochet, designed from scratch to match the image exactly—no wires or plastic needed beyond optional safety eyes.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Form & Proportion Analysis

  • Finished size: ~10 in (25 cm) using DK cotton and a 2.5 mm hook.

  • Body: Compact cylinder tapering to a natural waist near Body Rnd 12; overalls bib covers center chest.

    1. Tee: Cream base with narrow mint stripes (linen/moss stitch effect).
    2. Overalls: Sage short dungarees with front pocket, crossed straps, and rolled leg hems.

    4. Hat: Straw-look panama (wheat color), dented crown with narrow brim.
    5. Tote: Cream mesh bag with long handles; holds 2 carrots, 1 radish, and a bunch of greens.
  • Fabric density: ~8 sc per inch; garments slightly looser for drape. Angles: ears down; arms slightly forward; legs perpendicular.

Assembly & Dressing

Order of Operations

  1. Dress the striped tee first (stretchy neckline).
  2. Pull on the short overalls; cross and sew straps in back; add buttons.
  3. Attach arms if you waited until after dressing; angle slightly forward.
  4. Put on slip-on shoes; confirm both soles are parallel.
  5. Pop on the panama hat; pinch the front crease; tack at two points if needed.
  6. Hang the mesh tote from one shoulder and position vegetables inside.

Blocking, Styling & Care

  • Hover-steam the hat brim and overall hems to relax; avoid pressing flat to keep texture.
  • Shape the muzzle while warm so it stays softly rounded.
  • Spot clean only; air dry.
  • For photos, place the pup on a wooden table with daylight; angle the tote so carrots and radish are visible.

Troubleshooting

  • Head wobble: Crochet a short neck peg (6 sc around × 4–5 rnds) and stitch between head and body before closing.
  • Tee tight at underarm: On the divide round, use ch-5 instead of ch-4; on next round, add 2 extra stitches under each arm.
  • Overalls ride up: Lengthen each strap by +2 chains or tack side seams to the tee with a hidden stitch.
  • Hat too big/small: Add/remove one crown increase round (±6 sts) or change hook ±0.25 mm.
  • Shoes slipping: Add an extra round of sc at the opening or tack to legs invisibly.
  • Tote collapses: Add a small blocked crochet rectangle inside the bottom for structure.
